End homelessness in Chicago through prevention, housing and supportive services.
Be recognized leader of the elimination of homelessness in the Chicago area by combining homeless outreach, wraparound supportive services and affordable housing development partnerships.
Renaissance Social Services, Inc. (RSSI) began operating in 1997 to help marginalized populations living in low-income housing develop the living skills needed to maintain housing stability. The organization’s first units of supportive housing came from a partnership with RRG, a developer of affordable housing in the Wicker Park neighborhood. This collaboration gave RSSI a place to house clients and provide supportive social services, while decreasing residential turnover and increasing the stability of the building and community.
Since then, RSSI has expanded its programs and partnerships to serve more than 900 individuals in need every year. Our Housing Stability Program (HSP) provides quality housing and case management support to men, women and families living at five properties across Chicago’s North and Northwest Sides. Our Supportive Housing Outreach Team (SHOT) provides housing and services to chronically homeless men and women struggling with mental illness and substance use disorders. Our Life Skills Training Program is open to all RSSI program participants (as well as non-clients who reside in RRG properties) to help them build skills necessary for more stable and self-sufficient living. Finally, our prevention efforts aim to keep people in their homes through emergency financial assistance and a new initiative to house seniors at increased risk of homelessness.
