Executive Director

Michael Banghart, MA, LPC

Michael Banghart is a leader in Chicago’s efforts to prevent and end homelessness and advance health equity. He has been with Renaissance since 2001 and has worked in the social services field for more than three decades. Michael is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. He began his career in 1990 working with chronically mentally ill older adults and in 1992 began working in a supportive housing organization working with chronically mentally ill adults and mothers with children.
In 1995, Michael began doing research into the homeless, seriously mentally ill (HSMI) adults for a longitudinal federal research project. Michael has published three articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored chapters in two books. He has presented at conferences around the United States and is currently a member of the American Counseling Association, American Psychological Association, and the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology. He received his MA in Counseling Psychology from Adler University in Chicago and his BS in Psychology and Sociology from Michigan State University. He is a licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois.
Michael has served on the Governing Board of the Chicago Continuum of Care and the Executive Committee of its Service Providers Commission. He has also served on the Board of Directors of All Chicago and various bodies associated with the Chicago Continuum of Care including its Permanent Supportive Housing Constituency Group, Chronic Homeless Constituency Group, Homelessness Prevention Committee, and Council on Latino Homelessness.
